We discovered the Robert Newlon Airpark, near Huntington, WV, as a unique stopover halfway home from Washington DC. A new city to explore, a unique campground at an airpark with live music and dinner available? We had to check that out! The Robert Newlon Airpark and Fly In Cafe is a one of a kind location. The campground is home to the only grass runway in West Virginia and offers plane rides and skydiving. The Fly In Cafe offers seafood, a full bar, and live music on Saturdays throughout the summer. and the Saturday during our stay in March. The food was good, music fun, and the campground sufficient. We had full hookups on a gravel site. There were a few other campers in the park, but we felt like they were residents or seasonal campers. Nonetheless, we felt welcome and comfortable dining at the cafe and enjoying our overnight visit. We briefly visited downtown hunting. We grabbed lunch at Backyard Pizza and enjoyed everything we had. The had a homemade cauliflower crust and great wings. The rain ensued so we sought a dry place to hangout. We stumbled across Quicksilver Arcade Bar & Kitchen, a family friendly place during the daytime. We spent several hours playing a great assortment of video games. Although we are happy to check a new state, West Virginia, off the list of states we've visited, we haven't scratched the surface. There is some much natural wonder to explore - Blue Ridge Mountains, Shenandoah River, West Virginia, mountain mama. John Denver is right, it's almost heaven.
