After all of the fun our kids had on the Wibit at the Dogwood Valley Jellystone near Columbus, Ohio, they were determined to find another campground with a Wibit. They did the research and discovered Pine Lakes Jellystone near Pittsfield, Illinois, less than four hours from our house. We were lucky enough to grab the last available site for the July 4th weekend.
Pittsfield is a rural area west of Springfield, but the Jellystone is a large and popular location. The campground features several playgrounds, a pool, snack bar, bounce pillow, boat rental, horseshoes, gem mining, basketball courts, activities, swimming beach, a trail around the lake, and a large Wibit.
We are discovering the access for Wibits at campgrounds vary. Some are free for registered guests, while others you have to buy a separate pass. At Pine Lakes, they charge a $3 per hour life jacket fee. We discovered that one to two hours is a good amount of time on the Wibit; we did four, two hour sessions over our three night stay. This Wibit was huge with a number of obstacles and courses that insured everyone slept well each night.
Although we didn’t arrive until July 5th, we still enjoyed fireworks at the campground Friday night. We also saw a patriotic golf cart parade.
On Sunday, we decided we needed a break from the sun and Wibit for a few hours. We drove to Quincy, Illinois on the banks of the Mississippi River. We walked the downtown, had pour over coffee and decaf lattes at Electric Brewing, and had a nice lunch at The Taproom and Cafe.
We’ve visited several private campgrounds, Jellystones and KOAs, this summer and still find ourselves conflicted on our preference between public and private. We think we just like camping!
