Columbus Belmont State Park in Kentucky is situated high on the bluffs overlooking the Mississippi River. The park preserves Civil War earthworks and tells a unique story of the war. Plus, the campground is a relaxing destination, making Columbus Belmont a great mix of outdoors, history, and relaxation. We previously visiting Columbus Belmont in our Cricket. For that visit, we had a busy weekend planned at Discovery Park of America. For this weekend, we just wanted to escape for a couple days and relax. Columbus Belmont is the perfect place do do this.
The campground is small, 38 water and electric sites. The sites either back to the playground/common area, to the river, to the woods, or a field. All of the sites are good, but a few offer great views of the river. We enjoyed walking from the campground to the trails that go through the earthworks and the river overlook. Our site also had the field behind it. We took advantage of the space and great weather and threw the frisbee around. Columbus Belmont may not be a flashy destination, but it certainly is a great spot and enjoyable destination if you find yourself in Western Kentucky.
