Babler State Park

We first visited Dr. Edmund A. Babler Memorial State Park on January 1st, for the first day hike program. At that time, we knew this would be worthy of a weekend stay. We always enjoy a weekend getaway to the St. Louis area! Read on to find out how a wolf, an airplane, and Cherokee added to our weekend. 

We arrived at Babler State Park Friday evening. The weather was cooler for late March/early April, but dry and good camping weather. Babler is located west of St Louis in St Louis County. More specifically it is between Chesterfield and Wildwood and is near the Missouri River. Babler is located in an old growth Oak and Maple forest among with a lot of hills. The campground follows suit with hills and large trees. The electric only sites are flat and level with a concrete pad, picnic table, fire pit, and the less common lantern post. The bathhouses had just opened for the season and were average to above average for a State Park's campground. 

We quickly set up camp for the evening and prepared burgers at the campsite. We went fancy, still influenced from our recent Charleston trip, and used the burger recipe for Husk Burgers, which are incredible and a step up from a typical campground burger. We did the prep work the night before to make them a quick meal.  

Our plan was to make breakfast at the campground, but the cool weather encouraged us to eat out. We've been considering a meal at The Wolf Cafe for sometime. Their passion for local ingredients and paleo-friendly offerings had peeked our interest. We were not let down. They had great locally roasted coffee, egg skillets filled with tasty vegetables, and fun decor that made our short wait entertaining. We suspect that Babler camping with Wolf Cafe for breakfast could be a recurring weekend. 

As we had promised, we took the kids to The City Museum for our typical five hour visit. We have been here many times and we always enjoy seeing our favorite standard exhibits like the slides, and the caves, but we also enjoyed spotting new additions since our previous visit. Mitchell conquered a fear and climbed through the airplane this weekend, while Lillian was fearless and fast moving through tight spaces, completely exhausting her parents!! Our phone measured that we climbed 32 flights of stairs during our visit. 

We wrapped up our evening by exploring the campground and the trail behind our site, enjoyed a campfire, and roasted hot dogs and banana boats. What a great time!
