Is Cricket Camping now Mantis Camping? We loved our Cricket, so why the change?
We came across Cumberland Mountain as an overnight stop on our way to Asheville previously. Although we were there after sunset and departed before sunrise, we thought this location, situated half way between Nashville and Knoxville in Tennessee, deserved a weekend trip.
We planned to visit Montgomery Bell State Park in March as a way to extend our Savannah trip by a few days. Our plans changed and we instead book a spring weekend to make a visit.
When we started camping we set a rule: we were not going to camp anywhere that we could easily drive home. We live one mile from a National Wildlife Refuge that has four campgrounds. Already planned activities around home caused us to break our rule and Camp Local.
Our spring break is mid-March, which is unpredictable for finding warm and dry weather. On our recent trip to the Georgia coast, we scored nearly perfect weather. We took full advantage of the good weather to explore Savannah, Tybee and Skidaway islands, plus two campgrounds. Read more to learn about both campgrounds and our favorite experiences of the trip.
Memphis has special history for us as the location of our very first camping trip in a camper during the sweltering Labor Day weekend in 2015. Conditions were very different this time, along with the location, as we got to stay at the popular Tom Sawyer RV park on the banks of the Mississippi River.
For the fourth year in a row we have camped for the Thanksgiving holiday. This year, we had the treat of camping in Asheville, NC near the Blue Ridge Parkway.
